I like being able to participate and getting a say in things
“Overall it is a very relaxed environment and already better than college was for it is so hands-on and engaging. I like being able to participate and getting a say in things, learn by doing.”Spencer Payne, Richmond, VA
Woohoo! I aced this quiz.
“Woohoo! I aced this quiz. I aced the last one too, but I’m more excited about this one for some reason. So as an audio engineer, you are kind of an electrician as well. To get the live sound from an instrument onto your Pro Tools software, there is quite a journey it has to make. Learning how to connect the cables properly will serve its purpose when troubleshooting needs to be done. With practice and experience you should be able to pinpoint the issue if something sounds off.”
I can’t wait to go to the studio tomorrow
“In this chapter I feel so good I’m finally in protools and reading this chapter make everything more clear. I already have been doing some minor recording with my mentor he been showing me some basics things. I can’t wait to go to the studio tomorrow to use some things I have learned”Brandon Monroe, Natchitoches, LA
It really showed me the history of microphones
“In this chapter I learnt about frequency response, and different types of polar patterns. It really showed me the history of microphones.”Dominic Burrough, Atlanta, GA
I should understand it more clearly as I move on.
“In this lesson I started learning the basics of what every audio engineer needs to learn. It will take a bit for me to understand, but with persistence and amazing help from my mentor I should understand it more clearly as I move on.”Matiya Fazio, St. Paul, MN

Last night’s session with my mentor was a success.
“Last night’s session with my mentor was a success. This was my second session of the day and I had an opportunity to network with up and coming Memphis artist. I’m looking forward to the next session and available opportunity to network.”
I am excited about this new endeavor.
“This first official lesson went by pretty well for the being both the instructor and the students first time within the RRF program. I can already tell that I have a lot to learn in a little time but at the same time it has me feeling worried and nervous, I am excited about this new endeavor.”Kevin Tarr, Bangor, ME
Much thanks to my mentor and the RRF crew for getting my foot in the door and making this happen.
“The first day in the studio was really good. It was kind of an ice breaker session between my mentor and I. I didn’t want to leave the studio by the end of the session. I’m excited for the sessions to come and learning the equipment. The basics and textbook were a little dry but once I got in the studio with the reference points, and being able to relate it was invigorating. I’m excited for this experience in the making but more so the hopeful career to come out of it. Much thanks to my mentor and the RRF crew for getting my foot in the door and making this happen.”Brandyn Rowley, Rapid City, South Dakota
I don’t think I could have had a better teacher.
“This has been such a great experience! To learn from such talented people has been an honor. This program has been everything that I hoped it would be and much much more. I have learned so much in the last six months while at the same time having fun in the process. I’m so happy I chose RRF and I’m so lucky to have worked with Joe Gallagher. My mentor is one of the coolest down to earth guys I have met in a long time. He is very easy to get along with but at the same time, he keeps it very professional. I don’t think I could have had a better teacher. Thanks RRF for this amazing time!”Logan Brown, Chicago, IL
Microphones are my favorite!
“Microphones are my favorite! My mentor showed me his personal stash today in the studio. My mentor is currently recording with the Sony C800G with the Ribbon R121. It records so crisp and sounds industry ready without having to mix it. He also showed me the Shure smb7, Sennheiser md421, and the Neuman u87. A real beauty.”Arthur Atilano Jr., Santa Ana, CA
I’m so happy for this opportunity!
“This evening I was invited to sit in on my very first studio session. My mentor was recording a very talented young lady. She is amazing! I love her voice and she has a great personality. I can’t wait to start learning how to use the equipment and get my copy of Pro Tools. I saw that everyone that was in the studio tonight has a true passion for what they’re doing. I’m so happy for this opportunity!”
Great week at the studio
“Week 15 was about time based effects. My mentor showed me some real-life examples of using delay and reverb with some songs that he was currently mixing. He showed me how to use an aux track in order to achieve the delay and reverb, as well as different parameters to using each effect. After our weekly lesson, we had some extra time to go over some basic production in Ableton Live. Great week at the studio”Rian German, New York, NY
Overall it was a really fun time at the studio
“This is one of the first lessons where I got a lot more hands on in the Studio. They took one of each of the three types of mics and recorded me playing the guitar with each. I got to see how the different polar patterns were capturing the sound of the guitar and how each sounded different. We also went over the different areas you can record on the guitar either in the sound hole (which could cause something called “proximity effect” which gives a boost to the low end), frets, or the bridge. Afterwards they let me record anything I wanted on my own which was a little confusing at first but I was able to get it at the end and worked faster. Overall it was a really fun time at the studio and the chapter was very informative on the different types of microphones.”Mashearelly Solis, Houston, TX
It seems like yesterday I was going through orientation
“The final chapter. I honestly can’t believe I’m already at this part of the course. It seems like yesterday I was going through orientation and now I’m writing this blog post about the mastering lesson and preparing for the final. Regardless, I feel very lucky to have been able to experience this book and learn what I have learned so far. This is only the beginning”

I feel like I am building a good report
“Thursday at noon has become the official studio day to be in the studio with my mentor Ryan Conway. It is great to have a set day/time as my schedule has become very hectic. Ryan has been extremely cool about everything from the get go. We went over the lesson and Ryan made sure I understood everything. He puts concepts into terms of actual situations that happen as a music engineer. I feel like I am building a good report with a person who clearly has all the knowledge I will need to learn to be successful in the industry.”Josh Denhardt, Denver, CO
My mentor is amazing!
“Tonight’s lesson was awesome. I recorded a band at my studio at my home and brought the recorded track to my mentor and we mixed it down together. Wow what and amazing sound I have to my recording! My mentor is amazing!”Chris Litwin, Waterbury, CT
I thoroughly enjoyed it!
“I just had my first remote Pro Tools session with Brian at recording connection! I thoroughly enjoyed it! I cannot wait to get my copy of Pro Tools and start creating. I have a Mac Book Pro and it comes with Garage band. I’ll be using that for now until I get my copy of Pro Tools.”
Familiarizing my way around the studio is pretty educational
“Familiarizing my way around the studio is pretty educational, lots of things to learn still, I met a couple of musicians as well as the engineers, and while I watched and listened to the multiple sounds vibrating my ear holes in the recording rooms reading the chapter first helps! And I am sure the weeks to come sound even better and reading/learning even more.”
I was able to learn more about mixing
“My first session of the night just finished and it was great. I got the chance to work with the incredible jazz singer Cathy Kelly. She was an amazing artist to work with and I was able to learn more about mixing when dealing with jazz sessions.”
Can’t wait to get started recording!
“I just received the software in the mail so I’ll be able to get my hands on it this week and start experimenting. Mainly this chapter focused on Pro Tools organization which seems to be extremely important after saving so many audio files over time. Also, key commands are something that seems important and I’ll be working on memorizing each of the keys and modifiers I choose. In conclusion, can’t wait to get started recording!”Tanner Bjorklund, Los Angeles, CA
The first week solidified that I had made the right decision to get enrolled!
“If I wasn’t already beyond stoked to get started in the program the first week solidified that I had made the right decision to get enrolled! The first chapter felt slightly like a trip back to high school science/biology class as worked thru the chapter. The videos included in the text helped make things that were slightly gray very clear and easy to understand. I am very much a visual learner, so I definitely appreciated that. Bottom line is I feel like I’m finally on the right path in life and excited to continue on and keep learning from the best to get to where I want to be.”Josh Denhardt, Denver, CO
It was really nice to get some hands on learning experience
“It was really nice to get some hands on learning experience without it having to be under the pressure of an actual recording session or live sound event and with a professional engineer. I feel a lot more comfortable about working on this console now after actually using it first-hand opposed to just reading about it in the manual, and I think I understand how it works much better now.”Brett Robinson, San Francisco, CA
He’s going to have me mix a track. Psyched.
“I met with my mentor yesterday afternoon. After he clarified 1 thing that I really didn’t understand (the Fletcher-Munson curve), I took the chapter test on which I got 14 out of 15 right. I’ll be meeting with him again later in the week. At that session he’s going to have me mix a track. Psyched.”Marc Miller, Bridgeport, CT

The remix is almost done and I’m excited to go back and finish it!
“During my second week, I got to work with a lot more gear and learn some more about pro tools. John let me bring in a remix I am doing for a contest so we could track acoustic guitar and learn how to produce it through pro tools. It’s pretty similar to Ableton live as far as the commands and such, but John has a ton of VST plugins that I don’t have so it’s fun and new to me in that sense. The remix is almost done and I’m excited to go back and finish it!”Ben Foster, Houston, TX
So it was my first time being at the studio this week.
“So it was my first time being at the studio this week. I went with my mentor to help with some recordings that we did at this oil company BP. The experience recording at a live setting in an office was pretty sick!”Kevin Wong, Houston, TX
