Why learn audio or music production from an instructor on a campus when you can learn from a pro in his or her Portland studio?

On Location, Or Remote.

Not like any other school, this is Audio Education Updated, Reimagined, and Revitalized. Are You Ready to Take Your Place?

We hit different and here is why:

Although the unofficial slogan of the city is “Keep Portland Weird,” there’s nothing odd about the love of music they have in the Rose City. There are some truly legendary venues in the largest city in Oregon State, as well as some lesser-known, more intimate locales. As one of the main stopping points for touring acts along the West Coast, there is also a wide range of PORTLAND AUDIO ENGINEERING AND MUSIC PRODUCTION SCHOOLS.

But what better way to learn your way around a sound console, digital audio workstation, and sound room than inside a real-world, fully operational recording studio? That’s what the PORTLAND RECORDING CONNECTION is all about. There may be a time and place for classroom learning in more traditional industries, but the music business isn’t what you’d call traditional.

Instead of instructors looking to get tenure, we’ll place you with a PRO MUSIC PRODUCER looking to make local, regional, and national acts sound that much better. Instead of vying for facetime with that instructor, you’ll get one-on-one attention from your mentor. Instead of waiting your turn to get your hands on whatever gear a four-year university or trade school has, Recording Connection mentors have actual industry standard gear and they use it to capture and make great sounding music, day-in, day-out.

But we’re not done flipping the script on what a traditional education looks like. Instead of forcing you to follow a standard schedule, Recording Connection’s Academic Facilitators and mentors work with you to set a routine that works with your life. We understand that you may have job or family commitments that make attendance during the day a little more difficult.

Lucky for you, the music industry doesn’t run on a traditional timetable. Nor does it run on prerequisites, GPAs, and or a set amount of education academics think you need. Our mentors work to expand on the knowledge you have, improve the skills you lack, and show you what it takes to make a career in the music industry your living reality.

And we won’t force you into a six-figure financial hole or make you commit to four years either. Our programs cost a fraction of traditional “name” universities and take anywhere from six to nine months to complete.

Like was said at the top, Portland is anything but “standard” or “traditional.” Maybe that’s why we feel Recording Connection is such a great fit in Rip City.

How are we different than other professional audio engineering schools?

We took that old stale classroom concept, rebuilt and upgraded it by putting your classroom in a professional recording studio. Then we emptied out all the other students and left only YOU and YOUR TEACHER (yay for one-on-one learning!) who happens to be a pro music producer (with killer credits) to train you privately (at your pace, full time, part time, nights or weekends available).

Your hands-on learn-by-doing experience starts here!

Close to Home or In Your Home
10 Miles, 10 Blocks, Or 10 Seconds from Your Future as a Music Industry Professional

With Recording Connection mentors located in Portland, there’s no need for you to uproot your life and head up to Seattle or down to Los Angeles. And with plenty of up-and-coming talent, as well as touring regional and national acts, there’s never a shortage of clients looking to clean up a track or begin working on something new. But as 2020 showed us, it’s not always possible to head down to the studio at the last second to meet with your mentor. Or the gym, the movie theater, or live music venue. And while many educational institutions were left scratching their heads when it came to giving students access, Recording Connection was well-positioned to keep the music flowing. During the past couple of decades, we introduced and perfected remote learning for hopeful audio engineers and music producers. By establishing a curriculum that could be followed alongside your mentor as well as from home, the Covid-19 lockdown did little to restrict student access. Even when there isn’t a pandemic forcing self-quarantines or social distancing, our remote learning means you aren’t limited to Portland mentors. With more than 250 locations around the United States and Canada, learning from a mentor that speaks to your soul through his or her work is only limited by the power, storage space, and speed of your computer and the reliability of your wifi.

Does A Career In The Music Industry Sound Too Good To Be True?

Work with the Stars and Amplify

With the Portland Recording Connection, there’s no waiting for your questions to be answered, no need to figure out how to pay $100,000 (or more!), and no musical experience is required. While there are music producers out there who seem to be born with genius and the stars properly aligned, most of those in the industry grind their way to a career - and continue to do so client by client, and track by track. They build their success by going out and making connections, networking with potential clients, and working their behinds off while in the studio. With the Recording Connection, you’ll still have to put in lots of work. But we’ll take care of one key component: Opportunity. We give you the opportunity to work side-by-side with an industry insider. They give you the opportunity to work with established clients on the latest and greatest gear. And when the time is right, you’ll get the opportunity to work with clients and start building your brand and your portfolio. By taking advantage of these opportunities, you’ll be in a perfect position to begin to bring in clients of your own as well as impress your mentor and other audio engineers, producers and artists in that environment. Every minute you spend in our PORTLAND RECORDING STUDIO is a time when an opportunity could come knocking. How will you answer? We can’t guarantee there will be a job waiting for you at the end of the program. Guarantees are hard to come by in the music business. But our most successful graduates, the ones that make themselves indispensable, have gone on to work with their mentors in a professional capacity, have been hired by other studios, and even been taken on the road in the middle of their programs! What makes more sense to you? Spending time and money at a four-year university only to be handed a diploma and firm handshake? Or spending less than a year building a resume, industry experience, a portfolio, and a fat list of potential clients? We can’t guarantee a job, but your hard work, determination, and making the most of your opportunities can go a long way towards helping you cash that first check.

Here's what Former Portland Students have to Say About Recording Connection

Hands-on learning and training with an actual pro is well worth the price of admission. I learn best by doing; therefore if I can see and touch the equipment or software, I retain the info better. How can anyone pass up the opportunity to learn from those who have several years to decades of experience? My advisor and mentor hold a wealth of information they are willing to pass on, but you are not going to be spoon-fed. You will be challenged to think things through first before acting. I have enjoyed and learned much through the learning process with these two gentlemen. It’s like on-the-job-training on steroids.
