Recording Connection is:
audio education upgraded for the 21st century
Watch to learn why:
Whether you call it N’Awlins, N’erlins, or the Big Easy, New Orleans is known for a variety of reasons. World-renowned Mardi Gras celebrations, Creole food, and the French and Spanish inspired architecture. But the city also knows heartache: the devastation of Hurricane Katrina and the near-annual flooding that occurs because of its location on the Gulf Coast.
But through it all, New Orleans has shown an uncommon resiliency. The city rallied around the Saints as they made the trip to their first Super Bowl title. The festivals continued and the beads still flow on Bourbon Street. Another constant? The music.
Few cities in the deep South have a musical heritage as rich as that of New Orleans, Louisiana. Recognized by many as the birthplace of jazz (especially Dixieland jazz), the city still resonates with the sounds of jazz played live in venues all over town.
Jazz greats such as Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Prima and Wynton Marsalis all hailed from this area, among many others. And while the genre is the forerunner when it comes to the deep south sound, jazz isn’t the only musical style emanating from “Crescent City.”
Rock, rap, R&B, and even metal all have strong representation here. Among the other notable musicians with ties to New Orleans: crooner Harry Connick, Jr.; R&B greats the Neville Brothers; rappers Lil Wayne, Lil Romeo and Magic; rock legend Fats Domino; rock band Better Than Ezra, and Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor.
