Although not a city people readily associate with the music business in general, Hamilton actually has a growing reputation as a center for art and culture, including a busy and diverse music scene with bands and artists regularly playing in area venues like Club Absinthe, Gallagher’s Bar and Spencer Smith Park. While Hamilton was influential in the punk scene of the 1970s and 80s, today Hamilton’s music scene includes indie-rock, blues, electronica and other genres. Notable bands and artists with ties to the Hamilton area include Wax Mannequin, Tom Wilson, Kathleen Edwards, Junior Boys, Crowbar, and Brian Melo. Producer/Artist Brian Lanois, the founder of Grant Avenue Studios and producer for acts like Bob Dylan and U2, also hails from Hamilton.
