Music Scene in Fort Collins

If you’re looking for an industry-savvy audio engineering school in Fort Collins, Colorado, look no further. The RECORDING CONNECTION is the only school that gets you in the door of a real Fort Collins recording studio, where you’ll be trained as an apprentice (extern) by actual industry pros for a career in your choice of music production, audio engineering, mixing, live audio, electronic music-and its many sub-genres (dub fusion, industrial, house music, trance and more), club DJ and post production audio. In Fort Collins, CO, the best way to break into a music industry career is to get in the door of a real Fort Collins recording studio. We’re the school that gets you there.

What’s the point of spending 50 thousand dollars or more to sit in a college or trade school classroom, when you can train in a real recording studio for a fraction of that amount. Learn from the pros, get on the inside track, and gain industry access while you’re learning the ropes. Our audio engineering school is one of the smartest, most cost-efficient ways to get your music career off the ground.

Nestled against the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, the city of Fort Collins is located an hour north of the Denver metro, serving as home to around 150,000 people. Known for its hometown atmosphere, Fort Collins consistently makes the list of “Best Places to Live” in the U.S. by Money Magazine, and its scenic downtown is the model after which Disney theme parks’ “Main Street USA” was designed. As it turns out, Fort Collins is also home to a thriving independent music scene, fueled in part by the presence of Colorado State University, with bands and artists from many different genres performing in venues across the city, and even drawing talent from nearby Denver. Every spring, the Fort Collins Music Experiment (FoCoMx) features hundreds of local bands in dozens of Fort Collins venues, and in late summer, Bohemian Nights at NewWestFest takes over the historic downtown with lots of local music offered free and open to the public.

Considering the busy and active music scene in Fort Collins, it’s little wonder that there are quite a few high quality recording studios in the area. Whether you want to be a music producer, audio engineer, live audio tech or recording artist, the Recording Connection can train you in one of these professional facilities, effectively turning the studio into your personal classroom.

Our success in breaking people into the industry is due to our revolutionary mentor-apprentice (extern) approach. You won’t gain the experience or connections you need by sitting in a classroom, so we don’t put you there. Instead, you’ll be paired with a mentor in a real Fort Collins recording studio for one-on-one instruction that combines a structured curriculum with lots of hands-on experience. Not only is this the best way to learn how the business really works, but it also gives you the chance to make lots of industry connections that can help further your career! There’s simply no other opportunity like this. Enroll in our Fort Collins audio engineering school, and find out for yourself why over 70 percent of our students get hired.

Scott Ferguson Fort Collins Producer

Background

Picture this… It’s 1968 in a remote fishing village in eastern Canada. A six year old boy comes home from an afternoon jigging tommy cods on the wharf. He carefully drops the needle on “Rubber Soul”, his parents only Beatles album, adjusts his headphones and starts jamming to Ringo on his toy tin drum. These are the humble beginnings of what has become a great musical adventure. After a string of school concert bands, a Diploma in Jazz Studies and a Bachelor of Music from St. Francis Xavier University, Scott Ferguson has gone on to live his musical dreams.

In the early 80′s Scott focused on his jazz passion studying with renowned drum teacher Jim Blackley in Toronto and performing with such greats as Oliver Jones, Peter Appleyard and Dave Young. Settling in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Scott broadened his stylistic scope and in 1992 embarked on a seven year tenure touring and recording with “The Rankin Family”.

After hundreds of concerts in Canada, The United States, The U.K. and Australia Scott started pursuing his interest in studio production. Fueled by his work with legendary Nashville producers George Massenberg and John Jennings on the Rankin CDs “Uprooted” and “Endless Seasons”, Scott started “Ferguson Music Productions Inc.

The Fort Collins, Colorado

Recording Connection Audio School Advantage

1

We Are Located Everywhere.

Locations, locations, locations. The Recording Connection has literally hundreds of them—not only all across the United States, but also on three continents. This means you don't have to relocate to attend our school. We can train you in one of our Fort Collins locations, or anywhere else you choose to go.

The other guys don't come close. Advantage: Recording Connection.

2

Our Low Tuition Keeps You Out of Debt.

There's no good reason why you should bury yourself in student debt to learn audio engineering and music production. We buck the trends of skyrocketing education costs by keeping our tuition low, so you can graduate debt free and get on with what's important: your career.

The other guys not only cost more, they have lots of add-on charges. Advantage: Recording Connection.

3

Your Classroom Will Be The Recording Studio.

At the Recording Connection, we have no use for traditional classrooms, and we promise you won't spend a single day in one. Instead, you'll be learning audio engineering inside a real recording studio. That's right—your classes take place on-the-job.

Advantage: Recording Connection.

4

Learn One-on-One.

Not only will you be learning in a real studio—you'll be learning from a mentor who either owns or works in that studio. All your classes take place one-on-one as your mentor shows you the ropes.

With us, you are always number one. Advantage: Recording Connection.

5

Gold Records On the Walls.

What do we mean by this? We mean we partner with actual industry professionals to train our students. Our mentors are industry-recognized, experienced pros who have worked with artists like U2, Kanye, Lady Gaga, Aerosmith and many others. If you see Grammy Awards and Platinum records in the studio, try not to gawk.

Their teachers listen to the Gold Records our teachers produce. Advantage: Recording Connection.

6

Job Placement Assistance Program.

When you graduate from the Recording Connection, we don't just turn you loose with a list of job leads. Our job assistance program is geared to help you actively find work for up to a year after graduation. Of course, you might not need it: do a good job for your mentor, and he/she might just hire you!

The other guys give you a cold-call lead list when you graduate. Advantage: Recording Connection.

The Recording Connection is highly recommended by some of the top names in the music business. They love us because they know our methods are your best bet for breaking into the industry.

You can count the number of pros who recommend the other guys on one hand. Advantage: Recording Connection.

8

On the Inside Track.

Let's face it: it's hard enough to get in the door of the industry, let alone be thought of as an insider. But one of the greatest advantages of on-the-job training is that it gets you in the door, working alongside the pros. This gives you the chance to earn the respect of your mentor and peers, so by the time your competition comes knocking on the door with their resumes, you're already an insider—someone whose name comes up when job opportunities arise.

The other guys are on the outside, looking in. Advantage: Recording Connection.

9

Free Tutoring.

We offer free tutoring anytime our students need it. If you get stuck on an assignment, don't worry—we've got your back.

Unlimited free tutoring. Advantage: Recording Connection.

10

Connections.

No matter how good you are as a producer or engineer, you won't get jobs without connections. The Recording Connection puts you in the very place where you can make those job-producing connections—in the recording studio, the heart of the industry. This is perhaps your greatest advantage in training on-the-job for a music industry career.

Real world music industry connections. Big Advantage: Recording Connection.
