The Recording Connection in Texas is the most forward-thinking audio school in the state. We have a simple goal: to help move you into a career in the audio engineering field. We want you to become a music production master. That’s why we place you in a real recording studio as an apprentice (extern), instead of in some isolated classroom with a bunch of other audio students.
The Recording Connection functions on the mentor-apprentice (extern) approach. We pair you with a real producer or engineer who will guide you and equip you with all the skills and experience you need to become employable in this field. The Recording Connection wants to jumpstart your career. We help you get your foot in the door by placing you in a real studio, so you can become a highly sought after producer and audio engineer.
The Recording Connection in Texas has audio engineering school locations all over the state—in Dallas, Ft. Worth, Austin, Houston, and everywhere in between. Because all our training occurs in real recording studios, we aren’t limited by the location of a campus. We’ve got a location wherever you happen to be.
Creative industries are based on connections—it’s all about who you know, and who knows you. By placing you for training in the real world of the music industry, we get you close to the people who can one day hire you. You have the opportunity to meet people, prove your worth and then get jobs. We want you to be hired by those around you. The only way that will happen is if you’re where they are, showing off your talents.
The Recording Connection has your career in mind when we put you in a real recording studio, help you master your craft and assist you in making connections. You can’t go wrong with the Recording Connection.

Tiki Recording Studios was established in 1967 when the name was drawn out of a hat. CEO Gradie O’Neal has been a legendary engineer in the Bay Area and well respected. Many name groups have come through the doors and have recorded here. Jeannine O’Neal joined the company in the 80’s and has been an experienced music producer for the company. Both have recorded gold albums.
Two complete professional recording studios. Studio A-large recording room for bands with isolated drummers booth and singers booth. 91/2′ concert grand piano, excellent selection of microphones. Studio B- Production & Mixing facility. If you are a singer/songwriter/musician and need music behind you, let Jeannine create the arrangement of your dreams.
LP & cassette transfers to CD, Add your voice to Karaoke tracks for your family and friends, Career & internet music marketing consultation available. Call for prices and hours Many creative people have come through the doors of Tiki Studios-O’Neal Productions.
A bit of history, Tiki Studios was created by Gradie O’Neal and several partners back in 1967. We have survived many recessions, economy downturns, booms, you name it we’ve seen it and still survived by the grace of God. Tiki originally was on the corner of 17th and Julian St. in San Jose, Ca. and was in that location until 1985 where we moved into a much larger facility. The name Tiki came from Gradie and his partners at that time were trying to come up with a name for the new studio.
Everyone threw names in a hat and out popped Tiki. So for all these years, we have held on to the name and now added O’Neal Productions to the mix. The new facility offered two studios instead of one. One studio Studio A is the large room for bands to record. Studio B is the smaller music production and mixing room. Tiki in their beginning careers has recorded people such as Santana, Bill Withers, Lydia Pence of Cold Blood, Grupo Vennus, Los Aquario. We have also done many Gospel recording artists such as Lillie Knauls, Danni Bell and more. Many others (too many to name them all) have recorded throughout the years.
Both studios record many styles from Rock to world music heard throughout the world. Jeannine produces a wide variety of styles from African, South American, Vietnamese, Tibetan, Persian, India, Mexican you name it we’ve done it. That’s the beauty of music, it’s all the language we understand. More to come.Request an Invitation

Most of the time, building a career requires moving, evolving, and learning over time. One’s “career” is the byproduct of work that’s done in the present, the things you do while you’re in the pocket, perfecting your craft.
Sharrief Thomas knows about this intimately. This writer/producer/engineer and artist in his own right was exposed to the Recording Connection program when he was recording at Quad Studios in New York City. Seeing our program at work led Sharrief to become a mentor himself. Today he helps our students hone their chops, gain skills, and plan for their futures while gleaning a first-hand understanding of how the music industry works from a creative and business perspective at Water Music Publishing, an independent music publishing and media company run by Sharrief and business partner Big Bug, whose known for his work with Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Sean Combs, and as one of the original members of the 90s R&B group, Today.
While recording at Quad, Sharrief and another Recording Connection mentor, Sax DMA, decided to give a number of RC apprentices the opportunity to earn engineering credits on his forthcoming album. “We had to turn down kids that wanted to join,” Sharrief says. And a number of notable artists came in to help on vocals including Sky Heavens, backup singer for Eminem, and Big Bub himself. “It was just the students getting to be in a live situation with real, live artists.”
Today, as a Recording Connection mentor himself, Sharrief apprentices students at Water Music Publishing in Bloomfield, NJ, just outside of New York City.

Picture this… It’s 1968 in a remote fishing village in eastern Canada. A six year old boy comes home from an afternoon jigging tommy cods on the wharf. He carefully drops the needle on “Rubber Soul”, his parents only Beatles album, adjusts his headphones and starts jamming to Ringo on his toy tin drum. These are the humble beginnings of what has become a great musical adventure. After a string of school concert bands, a Diploma in Jazz Studies and a Bachelor of Music from St. Francis Xavier University, Scott Ferguson has gone on to live his musical dreams.
In the early 80′s Scott focused on his jazz passion studying with renowned drum teacher Jim Blackley in Toronto and performing with such greats as Oliver Jones, Peter Appleyard and Dave Young. Settling in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Scott broadened his stylistic scope and in 1992 embarked on a seven year tenure touring and recording with “The Rankin Family”.
After hundreds of concerts in Canada, The United States, The U.K. and Australia Scott started pursuing his interest in studio production. Fueled by his work with legendary Nashville producers George Massenberg and John Jennings on the Rankin CDs “Uprooted” and “Endless Seasons”, Scott started “Ferguson Music Productions Inc.Request an Invitation

Jimmy Douglass (also known as The Senator) is an American four-time Grammy winning recording engineer and record producer, whose prolific career has spanned more than four decades.
In the early 1970′s at Atlantic Records studios in New York City, he started his studio career as a part-time tape duplicator while still attending high school. There he learned how to operate the studio’s custom made 16-channel console and observed, was trained by, as well as worked with some of the greatest engineers, producers and record moguls including Tom Dowd, Arif Mardin, Jerry Wexler and Ahmet Ertegun. For his first time behind the faders, he was encouraged by Wexler to engineer the session recording for a demo of a new band. He went on to work with great Atlantic Recording artists such as Aretha Franklin, Hall & Oates, Roberta Flack, Donny Hathaway, Foreigner, Led Zepellin and AC/DC to name a few.
During the 1980′s, Douglass continued to hone his engineering skills while also taking on the role as producer. He engineered and produced established artists including The Rolling Stones, Slave, Odyssey, Roxy Music and Gang of Four.
Douglass started the first half of the 1990′s, working mainly on jingles and post-production. This style of work taught him the importance of working efficiently and capturing the vibe which would greatly benefit him in the years to come. In 1994, he began working with up and coming contemporary R&B/hip hop producer Timbaland and served as his main engineer for more than a decade. They would eventually collaborate on classic projects from artists such as Aaliyah, Missy Elliot, Ginuwine and Jay-Z .
Beginning the new millennium, Douglass continued engineering and mixing more Timbaland produced projects including Snoop Dogg, Bjork and Grammy winning albums for Justin Timberlake. Among the artists he also mixed are Rob Thomas, Sean Paul, Kanye West, Ludacris, Al Green, John Legend and Duran Duran.
Presently, he continues to display his versatility by remaining current while drawing from his years of experience. Douglass is best known for bringing unconventional techniques into the studio and encouraging artists to transcend genre restrictions. He is credited with bringing a raw edge to sound and specifically bringing a heavy funk bass sound into rock music. His hard work and immense talent has carved a place for him among some of the most respected engineers and mixers in the world.Request an Invitation
