Recording Connection: letter: Ironwood Studio
What can one say about an organization that enabled me to "get my foot in the door" of a real, working, recording studio (other than "Thanks a lot!!")?
Well, for starters, I was a service manager at a consumer electronics repair shop when I began to repair more and more equipment for musicians. Soon I was in their living rooms and basements recording them. And after calling the Music Connection, I decided what I wanted to do with my life. The Record Connection took a great deal of the awkwardness away form getting into the studio business. I.e. They gave me the chance to show a studio management what I could do for them.
To make a long story short, I was employed by Ironwood Studios in Seattle as a staff engineer and technician before I completed the Music Connection's coursework! I assisted in the construction of a large studio/soundstage and control room as well as repairing their consoles, amplifiers, and multi-track tape machines.
The Music Connection was instrumental in learning the real world of the studio business in a "hands on" way at my own speed. Not to say any of it was easy, in fact the last two years of my life have been the most hectic, but also the most rewarding. Thanks to everybody at the Music Connection for a very informative and successful program.
