Located on Floridas Gulf Coast around Tampa Bay, the cities of Tampa and St. Petersburg anchor a greater metro area of over 2.7 million people, encompassing Clearwater, Sarasota and numerous other towns. Although not as high-profile in the music biz as L.A. or Nashville, this area sees a lot of music activity, due in part to the tourist industry and the presence of several area colleges. Tampa, St. Pete and nearby Sarasota all have solid local music scenes; Tampa itself has become known as a hotspot for various forms of metal music, much of which has centers around Morrissound Studios, a high-quality recording facility that has recorded projects by Seven Mary Three, Morbid Angel and Trans-Siberian Orchestra, among others.

Morrissound, of course, isnt the only recording studio in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area;  there are a number of other quality studios accommodating the needs of the broader music community here. If you are considering a career in audio as a recording engineer, live audio engineer or music producer, youll find plenty of learning opportunities here in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area, and RECORDING CONNECTION can get you close to the action in ways other recording schools cant match.

Learn how professional recording sessions are run.

"This week with my mentor I learned mostly about patch bays. I learned how to connect everything to get the effects that I would want. I also got to help set up a recording session, so I learned about mic placement and tuning. I also got to see how everything gets patched for a real session. The session was recorded tape to Pro Tools, so I got the understanding of how that operates as well which is definitely very helpful to see everything done on a real live session! Looking forward to next week, which will be just as awesome."

Gather your skills needed to secure jobs in the future.

“My first lesson with my mentor was great! We started by going over my first lesson reading that the Recording Connection assigned me. Then, my mentor took me into the studio for the first time! We started using a decibel meter to measure how loud it is in his quiet room and just how loud it was outside. Basically this gave me a hands-on feel of what my reading assignment was all about, which I had just gone over with my mentor. I learned that 85db is the correct decibel for recording. We listened to some mixes by popular Mixing Engineers and talked about what made this particular mix so good! My mentor really took his time with me and answered all of my questions. I truly look forward to going back in a week!”

Learn safety rules while recording in professional studios.

“From my mentor this week I learned about the importance of the sound levels and why you want to keep the level at 85dB when mixing. I also learned the importance of how the recording room is set up and how important it is too keep your ears protected from damage. We went over the importance of not listening to anything too loud before mixing or your ears will start to close and your sound levels could be off. My mentor helped me with a lot of questions that I had and was very helpful in making me understand.”
