"This week my mentor and I started out by going over the reading assigned by the Recording Connection, which was really easy for me, as we are getting into my comfort zone and talking about things that I use almost every day! Usually my mentor and I always spend extra time on things that I either don’t completely understand, or things that I need further explanation of. However, this week, I actually had a good grasp on what we went over. So, my mentor and I spent time talking about the importance of critical distance and why you would use certain mic techniques in certain situations. Next, we spent time talking about how to deal with difficult talent in the studio, and how to deal with high pressure situations when they arise. My mentor has a lot of stories pertaining to this and I really like learning from his experiences. And since I haven’t been in the situations he has, it helps me to hear from his perspective. Next week my mentor and I are going to start getting hands-on. My mentor asked me to prepare a piece of music to record in the studio. Since I don’t have a lot of MIDI experience, we are going to build a song using mostly MIDI. I am really excited about this one!"
