Work with your mentors’ famous clientele.

“This week with in the Recording Connection I learned from my mentor about plug ins, as well as parts of audio programs. I learned how to use the plug ins to make recordings sound good. For example, my mentor often uses an EQ and Reverb plug in for his vocals to make them sound SMASHING. My mentor showed me how he played with them to get them to the proper level for the best sound. We worked with the well known band as they were doing a few recordings before heading on tour. This was probably the most well known band I have seen come through my mentors’ studio so it was almost star striking to see these guys and help them set up. They were much more down to earth than expected. I helped their drummer set up his drum set and got to talk to him. His band and my mentor were quick to inform me that he hits the drums harder than anyone else in the industry, which explains his hearing loss. I feel more comfortable in the studio and can see this being my niche in the future.”

Learn by doing with the guidance of your mentor.

"My first day in the studio with my mentor was both a learning, and relieving, experience. We first started by going over my reading material given to me by the Recording Connection, and talking about the certain elements of sound, for example, frequency and sound waves. After listening to my mentor explain, and show me on the computer what the frequency and different hertz levels looked like, I immediately understood the concept. I have a hard time taking the context out of reading. However, when someone as smart as my mentor can show me what it all means, I can understand it very well, which I did. After my reading review, my mentor told me that he had to do some final mixes and mastering on a CD for a client of his, and told me to stay to observe. It was surreal to see my mentor investigate every little detail and noise in each song. The speakers in the studio are built by my mentor himself, and I have to say, they are the best sounding speakers I have ever heard in my life. It was pretty cool how it all came together and I am very excited for my next session and can’t wait to see what’s next!"
