Home Studio Enthusiast Goes Pro
When Prime Time Recording studio owner Tom Hannah got a call from
Entertainment Connection about mentoring an apprentice, he was
skeptical.
"We get people coming in all the time that have already been to
recording school, and are looking for jobs," Wylie complains. "The
problem is that what they know is pretty disappointing. We trying
working with the local schools, but they don't have the real
facilities, and the up-to-date equipment."
Enter Wylie Green.
"As a musician, I've been in lots of bands, and have had a home studio
for years," he explains. "Then I found out about Entertainment
Connection's recording program, and thought I'd give it a shot." He
interviewed with Tom, and the two clicked.
"Wylie was refreshing," recalls Tom. "He showed up with a lot of prior
knowledge, but was still ready to learn. He went through the program
quickly, and seemed to pick up things well."
For his part, Wylie admitted that being in a professional studio
broadened his horizons greatly. "I was exposed to all the stuff you
never see at home: high-level gear, working with clients, handling the
business, and more."
After Green had been apprenticing at the studio for only 3 months, the
next step came naturally. "One day Tom asked me: 'Ready to start
working here?' Now I'm doing session engineering and remote recordings.
It's the best job I've ever had!"
And Hannah is a believer in Entertainment Connection's apprenticeship
method. "Entertainment Connection is great because the students get a
chance to work through a
real studio," he says. "It really
works!"
