IDM

Learn IDM Music Producing with the Recording Connection

IDM, or Intelligent Dance Music, has its stylistic origins in experimental music, ambient techno and avant-garde art music. Unlike other forms of electronic music that have a defined point of origin, IDM has a much less defined origin with simultaneous beginnings in the U.K., U.S. and Japan. Many critics have issues with the name IDM thinking it derogatory to other electronic music genres, and while they may have a point, there is no doubt that this unique form of electronic music stands out as a more intellectual form of listening. Among the many subgenres of IDM are ambient house, glitch, folktronica and break core.
