PHILADELPHIA RECORDING SCHOOL
ALTERNATIVE

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA is the 4th largest DMA in the United States.  The city sports a NFL team (Eagles), a MLB team (Phillies), a NBA team (76ers) and a hockey team (Flyers).

Philadelphia was the home of Dick Clark's American Bandstand which shaped America’s Top 40 music tastes with its daily TV broadcasts from 1957 through 1963 before going to a weekly format that lasted through 1989.  During its heyday, a single appearance on American Bandstand could launch a new artist, not to mention a new dance craze.  The movie Hairspray is loosely based on this phenomena.

Philadelphia is steeped in musical heritage, stretching back to colonial times, providing world renowned innovations in classical music, opera, R&B, jazz and soul. Philadelphia was also a major player in the early development of hip hop.  Philly has an abundant number of clubs and concert venues for both local and touring groups.  Some favorite venues are 12th air, Woody's, Shampoo, Public House, Blue Martini, Grape Street, M Room, World Cafe Live, The Rotunda, JC Dobbs and Trocadero.

For the music student, Philadelphia’s RECORDING CONNECTION School of Music Recording is an instrumental part of getting into the music business.  By providing connections that get the student in the door of a major Philadelphia recording studio, under the direct mentorship of a Philadelphia recording engineer or music producer, RECORDING CONNECTION is able to deliver real world experience to back up music theory.

You will get professional mentoring on Reason and Pro Tools.  You will learn how to deal with clients, how to run a studio, and of course, everything you need to know to be a top-notch recording engineer.  RECORDING CONNECTION students also receive dozens of Philadelphia music contacts during their six month apprenticeship.  Upon graduation, the Philadelphia RECORDING CONNECTION student has the two things necessary to get hired in the music business—real world job experience and real industry connections.

Progress Reports:  Checking in on our Pennsylvania Recording Students who are learning audio engineering and music producing where they live in places like Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Brackenridge.

Leonard Meske
PENNSYSLVANIA - Recording Connecton Student
I am a student with The Recording Connection and I am also working to produce my own music. An artist I've produced, Dizz Mighty, is opening for Vanilla Ice next week.  I've also produced a few other artists from my home set up.

Christopher Kahn
PHILADELPHIA, PA
I can use the studio anytime there is not a gig going on

Sean Daniels Report One
PHILADELPHIA RECORDING STUDENT
It was a fairly extensive lesson. However, the concepts weren't too hard to grasp because I have experience using EQ already. The only difference this time is knowing the theory of how and why it works the way it does. I still feel as though I learned a significant amount of additional information from my mentor.  Now Recording Connection is sending me an MBOX, for free.

Sean Daniels Report Two
PHILADELPHIA - RECORDING CONNECTION STUDENT
Last week I turned in the mid-term, and afterwards we covered lesson 16. The Recording Connection course teaches you digital as well as analogue cos analogue is coming  back. My mentor is great. I am learning everything I need to know in a real recording studio.

Zach Duler
PITTSBURGH RECORDING
I spent two hours this week in a class where we discussed compression, limiting, expanding, and noise gates. I also attended a session with the hip hop group formula 412 where larry finished the final mixdown of 2 of their songs

Justin Derose
BRACKENRDIGE, PA
This was my 4th class, we went over the audio production console.  My mentor is showing me how everything works
at my pace. This stuff isn't easy but fun.

Mike Reinhart
Pittsburgh, PENNSYLVANIA RECORDING STUDENT
Last week i worked on Time Based Signal Processing. Me and my mentor went over all the book work in this chapter and talked about reverbs, delays and many other things. After that he showed me the different ways to add reverb and delay in the studio, and all the ways reverbs work. Then he showed me the tools in pro tools using plug-ins. Then that weekend i went in for a session with a band and  watched the recording process with a live band. This is cool in that I am learning from a real engineer ALONE in his real studio. I love this program.

This week i worked on lesson #10 Analog Tape Recorders. Me and my mentor went over the book work for this chapter and talked about Analog Tape. This program is great cos it shows you Pro Tools (digital) and analog. Then my mentor showed me the analog tape recorder he has in the studio. He showed me all the different parts of the machine and talked about all of them and what they do as we went along. Then something really cool happened, on that day the local News station came by the studio with a man that wrote a song about the Pittsburgh Steelers, so the news wanted to film him in the studio which was pretty cool. I am making connections as I train with the Recording Connection.

Richard Carroll
RECORDING STUDENT - Philadelphia, PA
This week I completed and reviewed lesson 8.  My mentor  reviewed the midterm exam and we working on stepping up some time for me to do my first mix. He sits there right next to me and teaches me in his studio. Why do we even need regular school?

Marissa Galupi
RECORDING CONNECTION STUDENT - PENNSLYVANIA
I had more than just my weekly lesson in the studio.  My mentor is also training me on how to network and break into the business. It wont be easy but this program does train you in the real worl where jobs are given out.

Making The Most Of It

Philadelphia Recording Connection student
Rachel, loves our course and curriculum.  But what
she really appreciates are the opportunities we opened up for.  To say she's made the most of
them is an understatement.
