DENVER MUSIC RECORDING SCHOOL

DENVER, COLORADO is the 18th
largest DMA in the country but 13th largest music market by Soundscan
sales. Tim Allen, India.Arie, Philip Bailey,
Judy Collins, Chauncey Billups, Douglas Fairbanks, David Fincher, Isaac
Slade, Ace Young were born in Denver. Denver is home to the
Denver Broncos of the NFL, the Denver Nuggets of the NBA, The Colorado
Rockies of MLB and the Avalanche of the NHL.
Denver has always had a very active popular, jazz, and classical music
scene. During the 1930s jazz boom, legendary vocalists as Billie
Holiday, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis and others called Denver home. In
the early 60s Judy Collins and Bob Dylan were starting their careers in
Denver. Later in the decade Jimi Hendrix and Eric clapton called
Denver one of their favorite cities to perform in. The 70s saw
the emergence of country-folk music with John Denver leading the
charge. In the late 70s heavy metal blossomed, at least underground, in
Denver as metal purists know. The 80s and 90s saw Denver become fertile
ground for virtually any music genre, with metal, folk, country,
r&b, rock, jam, grunge, soul, jazz, funk, hip hop, punk, southern
gothic and stoner all thriving. Today Denver's sound can be called
'roots' music as presented by Porlolo, Jeff Finlin, Gregory Alan
Isakov, Ian Cooke, Roger Green, Bad Weather California, and Joe
Sampson, among others. A list of musicians with ties to Denver is
impressive: 16 Horsepower, Antonia Brico, Bob Dylan, The Apples
in Stereo, The Axe That CHopped the Cherry Tree, Big Head Todd and the
Monstors, Bill Frisell, The Czars, DeVotchka, Dianne Reeves, D.O.R.K.
Dressy Bessy, Five Iron Frenzy, The Fray, Ginger Baker, Glenn Miller,
John Denver, Judy Collins, The Minders, Slim Cessna's Auto Club, SPIV,
Vanilla Fudge, Vaux, Winger, Woven Hand and Zephyr.
All this makes Denver one of RECORDING CONNECTIONS’s favorite cities
for its Recording School curriculum. For no matter what genre of
music a student in Denver might wish to master, RECORDING CONNECTION
